Increasingly practitioners of sustainability (such as “green building” and land managers focused on ecosystem services analysis and disaster managers) are recognizing the significant overlap between their respective disciplines. This session will start with an overview that describes how community resilience links all of these disciplines. The session will then move into a series of examples provided by expert practitioners of how sustainability and ecosystem service approaches that have increased community resilience. The session will then become more interactive with a facilitated discussion that will focus address how these lessons learned can be applied at a neighborhood and individual level. The discussion will include areas of immediate opportunity as well as existing barriers to progress.
