Tracking Communicable Disease Outbreaks in Disasters

Kimberly Repp, PhD, MPH

This presentation provides attendees with an overview of the system for tracking and reporting disease at the local, state, and federal levels of government. The unique aspects of outbreak investigations in disaster situations will be covered in addition to exploring necessary public health surveillance in times of emergency. Attendees will walked through an outbreak scenario to demonstrate the disease-tracking interaction of public health with the community, medical providers, laboratories and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
